Qatar’s international dialling code (+974) is used to name the stadium. The stadium is constructed from 974 recycled shipping containers, and it will be deconstructed once it hosts the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Sustainability has been a priority when building the stadium.
In the beginning, the stadium was called Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. However, it has since been renamed Stadium 974 and hosted its first match in the FIFA Arab Cup on 30.11.2021.
